The Two Candlesticks & the Two Olive Trees

The keepers of the Two Testaments

The branches of two olive trees shall become one olive tree.

Revelations 11:1-3’

1. And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

2. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

I went over these two verses previously in Denying the Son of the Father

3. And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

First, I’m going to get the timeline out of the way, We have already covered verse one and two previously. This timeline is just another way of laying out the 42 months in verse two.

The 1,230 days taking the 1948 in the other timelines comes to 688AD. And the events that took place on the Temple Mount. Again, this was covered in another study.

This is the time of the two witnesses.

After 1948 the time of the two witnesses were up, that being Isreal and the Gentile sons of God. The purpose for the time in wilderness was to spread the message or the testaments. Even through the dark ages. Purpose fulfilled. Following the end of this period has been a time of the Me First and Me Too generation. I will get into that.

What happened after 1948 would cause the deterioration of both America and Britain, Giving way to another beast flare up in both nations? By removing legislation that allowed immigration and infiltrations of the Beast anichrists movements Islam.

God also has His Waves:

Here in North America, In 1906 the Azusa Street revival ignited a Pentecostal movement in the US. In 1960 carried the flame to the Catholic Church and the Hippy Movement. Charismatic meaning Grace, or literally Devine Enablement or another term was use as faith movement. The only difference beween the two movements was speaking in tongues was not a pre-requisite of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In the 1982 Calvery Chapel movement began, in 1995 the Toronto Blessing movement sprouted from the Toronto Airport Vineyard Church in Canada.

What happened to these movements and why are they not making the impact they once did?

The Azusa Street wanted to formulate and bottle the movement and sell it. I’ve even heard that the pastor resigned because there was some that wanted to talk to the dead. The Charismatic Movement wanted to prosper itself. The Vineyard movement missed the return of Jesus, and the Toronto blessing withdrew from Vineyard.

I have heard how such movements started. From oppression from one to another. The Baptists thought the Pentecostals were demon possessed, The Pentecostals and the Baptists agreed that God couldn’t save the Catholics and the Hippies. Boom, the Catholic Charismatic Movement became official in 1967. But the lot of them believed that God can’t save a Jew. These movements have became so self centered, Started in the Spirit and ended in the flesh.

Many want to re-experience such a move of the Holy Spirit. But at what cost. To have it end up in the flesh. In the later days every time the Holy Spirit broke through our flesh, there was a particular gift that was imparted or restored. And that Gift was carried through to the next awakening or enlightenment of the gospel. So the fundamentals of the previous awakening remained with us.

In order for God to manifest his presence there is something that we need to sacrifice. Usually it’s our traditions and world like focus.

I have alway’s envisioned a church building being built without walls, literally. So that the leaders can’t evict or make outcasts of it’s undesirables. I have literally seen this happen in every church I visited or became a member of.

The Two Witnesses

Now, how many of us have looked at this passage in all our churchdoom, as two magical super hero prophets breathing fire and turning water into blood and shutting up the heavens for rain for 1,230 day’s in the end times and being snuffed out and raised up again?

Some even named the saintly super hero’s as Elijah, Moses and Enoch. Three messengers that had such favor with the Lord, they escaped the death curse, everyone is appointed to die. Right?

Many have come to this conclusion through different means laid out in the following verses in this chapter. We will go over these.

I know I’ve had my imaginations on who this Super Duo may be. Such as, John the Baptist came to us in the power of Elijah, then Enoch and Moses was going to be represented by two super prophets in the last days. I was confused until I learned to look at this passage under different light.

Afterward’s, I said, “WOW”, what a deliverance. I felt something in my spirit become liberated. A witness to my spirit, you might say?

This is another passage that is vailed by the way it was translated and interpreted. And that is where I’m going to start breaking the bread of scripture.

Revelation Chapter 11:3;

And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

1. Power – is not in the original text.

2. Witnesses – taken from the greek word “martus”, we have derived the use of this greek word as a martyr.

Today being a martyr has a much different meaning than back then. We look at the word as someone being slain for the cause. We have the book called: John Foxe’s, The Book of Martyrs. Year of publication: 1111. This book has many references to biblical saints who have been martyred for the faith.

Witness – The word use is correct; however as we will find out, this is not referring two individuals but two messages.

Literal biblical definition: A record of a event, or a witness of a event or a testament or a testimony.

3. Prophesy – In breaking up the compounds for prophēteúō; Pro: before or in front of or prior to; Phemi: to bring to light ones thoughts, Phemi is also derived from phaino: to bring to light. Bringing to the forefront a message or a testament.

Literally; brining a given or inspired message to the light. Did anyone have a light bulb go off yet? Let’s not hide our candle under that bushel.

4. Two hundred and threescore days – a timeline of 1,230 days or prophetic years from 688AD leading up-to 1948AD. The dome of the rock project was completed in 688AD and Israel becoming a nation 1948AD.

5. Clothed in sackcloth – peribállō: covering, sákkos: sackcloth, made from long haired goats, also used for straining, symbolizes a mourning garment.

At particular times in history the Church was in a bad state. The church fell into what is called the Dark Ages, when Rome fell and the Constantine & Justinian period risen to power. Eventually this was when the church and state united and became the Holy Roman Empire. There was many atrocities that followed the Church in the Middle Ages that was not in the cause of Jesus Christ. Through the centuries there was the Spanish Inquisition, uprising of Islamic caliphates, which is Counterfeit Judaism. There was much bloodshed during these times. This is important to know progressing into later parts of this study.

This passage should be understood as: The two testaments who were separately witnessed and recorded two separate events, they shall bring forth a testament during a 1230 day period covered in mourning.

In verse 7 uses the same greek word for witness; as testimony.

Now this presents a different thought of what is being revealed next.

Verse 4;

These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

1. Two olive trees – In understanding this part of the verse we need to find a reference to this using the verse, chapter, book and testament method.

Who is this olive tree?

Jer. 11:16 – The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

Who was the Lord talking about concerning this verse? Judaea.

Romans 11:17;

And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

This passage talks about two olive trees. One being refined and cultivated, and the other bing a wild unkept olive tree.

The cultivated olive tree being Jacob’s root stock, Jewish branches that were broken off and the unkept wild olive tree being other nations and the broken branches from the original root stock. The Lost Sheep of Israel.

The context of the passage talks about the refined tree being cultivated and the wild tree branches being broken off and grafted into the meat or the trunk of the refined olive tree. If the root is holy so is the meat of the tree, with that bing holy, all that grows from the root, trunk, branches, leaves and fruit of the trunk thereof is made holy.

Is this passage talking about the refined branches being pruned because of unbelief? No, Paul made it quit clear that we as the gentiles should not boast.

In verse 30 – 32; this point is made:

Read the whole context of this chapter. God didn’t remove any natural branch for disbelief. Their disbelief was for a reason, that we Gentiles will have our redemption through our belief opportunity. God hardened the natural branches hearts. Because their gift and calling is with out repentance. Because of our past wild olive tree days of disbelief, we now have a opportunity to believe and receive mercy because of their unbelief. And they have mercy because of our belief. I don’t see any other way to read this passage. We Christians need to stop being so self centered as were the one and only. Who else is God going to have to graft in because of our hardened hearts. There has been much faith lost because of how we selfishly behaved.

Also keep in mind that lost northern tribes of Israel, God evicted because of unfaithfulness and idolatry, those branches were broken off an burned. They now have the ability to be grafted back in, and how much more will be there graft than the gentiles graft. First the Jew then the Greek. The southern nation of Judah were not broken off.

These branches represents the two covenants or testaments made. Each has their destiny to fulfill during these difficult times set forth. What affects one will affect the other. Even still, the Jewish people may even find their difficulties with the church. We two olive trees branches are now with a one root system.

2. The two Candlesticks – We don’t need to go too far to find what these two candlesticks represents.

Revelations chapter one refers to candlesticks as being a church, a church is defined as a gathering of people. Or ekklesia; the called out ones. As with this verse those who stand before God of the earth.

It is very clear that the two candlesticks are burning the oil of two olive trees made into one at the root or base that joins them together are the ones standing before God.

3. Before the God of the earth – Literary; standing before the face of God, or in His presence.

In Zechoriah 4:1-14’ Describes a very similar scene found in Revelation 11. In verse 14th calls the two olive trees and candle sticks represent the anointed ones. The literal translation for anointed ones is bēn; which means son. The actual offspring or adopted. It seem probable that these two trees joined at the root represents two different children types. Not a actual individual separate entities but as one people.

By the way the use of ben and téknon; in old an New Testament is gender neutral. Meaning Children.

1 John 3;

Vs 1. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Vs 2. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We as believers in Jesus the Christ have become the sons of God.

Galatians 3: 29 – And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Other Old Testament passages concerning the olive tree:

Jeremiah 11:16, Isaiah 17:6, Isaiah 24:13, and Hosea 14:6

Revelations 11:5

And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

Hurt – Literally unjust or do them wrong

Fire proceedeth out of their mouth – Literally; a spoken fire proceeds from their mouths.

Jeremiah 5:14 – Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

Figuratively saying the words of the prophet will consume the wood or the people. Some by the sword and some to be taken away. Not fire breathing prophets.

Heb. 1:7 – And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

Heb. 10:27 – But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Basically over come the enemies by our testimony of the Sone of God not breath fire on them.

What is the fire that proceeds from these prophets mouths? The Word. Now we ask ourselves how is this going to devour them?

And what will devour them and kill them?

Proverbs 18:21;

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

1 Peter 1:7;

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

First, we were talking about the injustice shown to us because of the testament we present, this is the trial by fire in perfecting our faith.

Rom. 12:20 – Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Heap – can interpreted as being burdened with sin.

Is this feeding their flesh with food and water? Or can it be feeding them with the word and spirit.

Basically our witness will be of kindness, that will bring to conscience their sinful nature. Killing their nature with the kindness and gentleness of the word.

I look at this figuratively and not just literally.

Revelation 11:6

These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

1. Power – Authority; exousía, literally; as the law allows. In this case, the law of heaven allows.

2. To shut heaven – literally; to close the sky.

For what purpose?

3. That it rain not in the days of their prophecy – This is where the confusion of Elijah as a one of the witnesses come in.

So now, is this a literal shutting up the sky to keep it from raining or to make it rain literally?

Amos 8:11, 12;

Vs 11. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing — the words of the LORD:
Vs 12. And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek — the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

Remember; these witnesses are not two individuals existing for 1230 years. This is the testimony or the two testaments. Not just one.

I have brought this passage up in my first study post. They shall run to and fro and the word of the Lord can not be heard or understood until it’s fulfilled. This to and fro can be seen as the wilderness experience of the woman of Israel, and the church during this period.

What can shut up the people of God from hearing His true Word of Jesus? The same here in this passage; rebellion, Read Ezekiel chapter 16 about the sins of Sodom likened to Israel. By the way, it wasn’t because where the people put their genitalia. Pride, haughtiness, calm complacency leads to idolatry. The immorality in this passage was talking about pagan practices. In some passages, immorality is also considered as, not taking care of the orphan and the widow.

Isaiah 5;

Vs 6. And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
Vs 7. For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

The clouds will rain no rain. Drying up the word of prophecy or the word of the Lord.

Once again, leaving the people of God high and dry without the prophetic Word or the Voice of the Lord during a previous wilderness experience. Can be taken into a future wilderness experience.

4. This is where the Moses being one of the witnesses confusion comes in:

Revelation 11:6b;

And have power over waters to turn them to blood,

Power – Once again; authority or the law allows.

Waters – Literary; to rain, figuratively water.

But rain what?

Rev 17:15; And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

It’s raining people.

We covered this also in Heaven’s Sevens part of these posts.

Daniel 9:26; And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Jerusalem was flooded with a people from other nations and languages of another persuasion of a different God.

Now what was this water turning into?

The blood is part of the life of the body, literally. However this can be looked at figuratively as inhibiting a movement or action, like taking the life out it.

There has been much evidence of bloodshed driving back the antichrist beasts. And many martyrs of the cause. At this time the 7th beast was in play, driven back nearly to death. Then resurrected into the 8th antichrist beast we are seeing today.

In turn the dark ages the fallen church had it’s part in plaguing the Jewish people as well. The inquisitions were to limit who can and who can’t come to Christ, especially if you were a Jew. The Spanish Inquisitions was to scathe off Jewish conversions. This wasn’t part of the witnesses testimony.

What are we plagued with?

Plagues – plēgḗ; Literally, to strike or bring injury or to wound. NOT DISEASES!

What was the two testaments a plague to? The antichrist beasts.

Again, what is a antichrist. Read: Denying the Son part of this blog series.

Revelations 11:7;

And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

Finished their testimony – this is the 1230 year period during this wilderness journey that the testimony will eventually spread through out to the ends of the earth.

This is the wrap up: 1948.

The beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit – following the wrap up of two witnesses or testimonies purpose. The seventh beast will rise it’s ugly head again as the revived 7th beast becoming the eighth beast. This followed the 1948 turning point of history. After all the center of the whole wide world is Jerusalem. We are now in the final generation part of history. The second part of the final Daniel’s week in chapter 9.

Jerusalem is the center or the naval of the world! Who’s the butt end of it?

Follow this link for a good study concluding this statement:

Church! Get ready for a bumpy ride. We are seeing the beginnings of the end birth pangs today. It’s happening fast.

What happens following Revelations 11:7 is to be determined. In my view. As with all prophetic, the revelation doesn’t come in to fruition until it actually happens. Christ did seal up part of this vision of John 10:4. We’ll understand this when it comes about. As in Daniel’s Chapter 9:24-27 & Daniel 12:11 vision, the to and fro knowledge of the vision will increase, didn’t wrap up until the Messiah was taken from us and the defilement of the Temple Mount.

The Witness of the Witnesses

This may sound like a different angle of this passage.

What was the two witnesses, witnessing?

The Word, the Water and the Blood

The authority of the Testaments.

The blood, washing of the water of the word, and the Holy Spirit.

John 19:34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

1 John 5;

Vs 5. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Vs 6. This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
Vs 7. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

The Water – that carries the life of the blood

The Blood – that offers the Life as a reconciling promise of the Covenant.

The Holy Spirit – The Holy Breath of Fresh Air that brings forth and carries the Life to all.

Record – again: literally to bear witness.

What does the Holy Spirit witness?

What the Father of Heaven and Earth revealed:

Jesus is the Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father.

This foundation revelation is all that His Church is built on.

The three in one and one in three: the Father, Son & Holy Spirit, they bear the testament or witness the overcome the world by is blood, water and the testament.

Keep in mind:

The Lord in the Old Testament is the same Lord in the New Testament.

The one sacrifice covered two peoples.

The two covenants are joined as one olive tree, Israel and the root that sustains this tree is one Lord.

Isaiah 43:10

I have declared, and have saved, and I have showed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.

Now that we may look at the end times a little differently, what are we to do with this?

Be free, find liberty in our hearts. Have a stronger faith in our Lord of Heaven and earth. Jesus the Christ, the son of the living God the Father.

I’m here only to proclaim and not to justify to anyone whats written. All inspirations in posts are original unless mentioned or quoted in the post. All of God’s rights to it is reserved. Why Jeremiah? He is the Weeping Prophet. God will confirm His word in my heart in this manner. Every Old Covenant Prophet will have their today in the New Covenant Church.
